This blog will eventually be about our Dande Deodorant, but first, I'd like to discuss something else. A historical event that has affected us all, but few know about. Its repercussions most won’t deny, and many have witnessed for themselves. This historical event, in which I speak, is that of The Great Lightbulb Conspiracy.

What is the Great Lightbulb Conspiracy, you may be asking? Well, back in 1924, a group of international business bigwigs from all the major lightbulb manufacturers gathered to form the Phoebus cartel. Solely driven by profits and sales, they agreed to collectively reduce the life span of the incandescent lightbulb. By 1925, the same lightbulbs that originally lasted 1,500-2,000 hours now only lasted a maximum of 1,000. Any company that violated the agreement and manufactured a longer-lasting light bulb was heavily fined. Thankfully, this cartel’s grip on the lightbulb market ended in the 1930s, but this strategy, which has come to be known as “planned obsolescence,” paved the way for other industries to lower the quality and life span of their products. It's truly hard to believe that the designing and manufacturing of most appliances, vehicles, products, and even clothing today is intentionally meant to have a limited lifespan, resulting in us having to purchase newer products for the sake of increasing sales. This not only hurts consumers financially, but it is also not good for the environment. We are told newer appliances are more efficient and better for the environment, but what about the impact on the environment when they are thrown into the landfills every 7-10 years? My grandparents’1940s refrigerator, similar to what Indiana Jones climbed into to survive a nuclear test blast, is probably still happily plugging along somewhere. Regarding efficiency, that’s a crock! A guy on Instagram took a refrigerator similar to my grandparents and had it running outside in the heat of summer with the door off for a month, with little effect on his electrical bill. Now I know you can’t believe everything on social media, but I would not be surprised if it were somewhat true. Please don’t tell me these corporations give a hoot about the environment! Now back to our Dande deodorant. People ask me all the time, “How is it your deodorant is so effective when all of these companies make deodorants and they aren’t effective?” Well, I am no master chemist, and it’s not that these companies can’t make a truly effective deodorant. They don’t want to! They don’t want to make an effective deodorant because they won’t make as much money if you don’t have to slather on a ton of their deodorant with each application, and reapply throughout the day. Planned Obsolescence trickled its way down to deodorant. If you haven’t tried our Dande Deodorant, we hope you will.
